Living on an acreage with lots of trees, brings lots of tree maintanence. It's been a job I have been doing for two summers now, trimming back the dead fall, and most likely inadvertently dismantling sitting areas that Sasquatch could sit down comfortably while remaining hidden and quietly watch the house.
The area I am working, I have set up a fire pit, so instead of hauling the tree limbs, sticks and dead fall off I can burn on site- along the tree line and it is somewhere where I keep close watch because it is so close to Sasquatch's known walking trail, I am wary that maybe I'll snip the branch that allows me perfect view... wishful thinking I suppose, or unnessary dread.
Friday was the last time I was over there working, trying to get a fire going from the damp wood, drying it out over hot coals trying to get in a bit more work in between snow flakes. I brought out two old books with me to use as fire starter. I had one complete book and a bit of one left when I decided that I had had enough of inhaling caustic smoke and decided to leave things as they were. I had intended on going back out the next day, but snow came. And it came the day after that too.
Today I went out to collect the tree snips, and remembered that I had left the books out- but they were gone. I thought to myself when I left them out that they probably would go missing, since a week before that, I left out half of a torn out book, and that too, went missing.
To our knowledge things have not gone missing before, except our animals- our lovely kitten Mogli, and our chihouhua, Daxter- but he was returned, and the incident that occured with him, we'll never know for sure.
Books going missing? Interesting indeed because in the last post I mentioned or questioned rather if these creatures have intelligence.
I said to my husband tonight, that them taking books, and not the tree snips shows that they do have intelligence, and speaks towards letting us know that they do. He agreed.
We have a shop that is open to them- or anyone for that matter- we're out in the middle of nowhere... we have bikes, skate board, tennis rackets, balls, hula hoops, plastic lawn chairs, tools, rope- nothing is ever touched. If it is, it is put back in its rightful place.
I know this to be true of the pictures of the baby monitor I have- they were curious enough to play with it, and the photos show it is moved but they put it back as they found it, and had I not had the pictures to prove otherwise, I would never have known.
I never left them or offered them- books- toys yes, and trinkets, but books, it never crossed my mind. It has been a while since I left food out for them... Surely they must have known the books were not intended for them? And the curious thing about this is when I would leave food, only portions of the food would remain- as if in respect, politeness or leaving it as their offering- we have never been offered anything from them in our kindness. No rocks, no animals, dead or alive, no trinkets, no toys, no gems, not even a feather. Now they take books that weren't even offered, and do not leave anything for us in return- still, I'd like to jokingly say 'How rude' but could this in itself be a message?
I am begining to think so- ( I'll let you all ponder this one.)
